The I.A.T.S.E. Entertainment Industry Wardrobe Training is presented by Theatrical Wardrobe Union, Local 764, IATSE and Reel Works. The training prepares New Yorkers with the essential knowledge and skills that craftspeople need to work successfully backstage and on set as Costumers and Dressers- the first step toward a union career.

What does it cost?

  • There is no fee for this program. Each trainee is paid a stipend.

Who should apply?

  • Legally eligible to work in the US

  • 21+ years before the start of training

  • Must reside within NYC (Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx) for at least the past 6 months. Proof of residency will be required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent from within the 5 boroughs of NYC

  • Individuals with experience and proficiency in sewing are required

  • Previous experience dealing with clothing, such as doing alterations, clothing retail work, dry cleaning, costume making, bridal, or clothing construction is highly recommended.

 

How to Apply?

  • Step 1: Attend a mandatory virtual information session

  • Step 2: Submit a resume and 3 reference letters with a completed application

  • Step 3: Attend an in-person interview
